Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were back early Sunday morning at the scene of an air crash that killed nine people during the Reno National Championship Air Races.
Federal investigators had arrived Saturday at Reno-Stead Airport to determine what caused the Galloping Ghost -- a World War II-era P-51 Mustang -- to plummet into a crowd of onlookers. The crash on Friday killed seven people at the scene, including pilot Jimmy Leeward. Two more people died later at the hospital. Dozens were wounded.
The NTSB has begun collecting photographs and videos of the incident taken by onlookers to help their investigation.
[Updated at 10 a.m.: The agency has scheduled a news briefing at 2 p.m. Sunday at Reno-Stead Airport on the investigation’s progress.]
